| Description | During the last eight years of Camille Pissarro life, his subject matter changed dramatically, from rural life to urban subjects. Many of these canvases were painted in series, Pissarro undoubtedly being inspired by the example of Monet's series paintings. In a letter to his son Lucien in December 1898, Pissarro wrote of his intention to paint a series of the Tuileries Gardens in Paris. His first series of fourteen views of the Tuileries Gardens was painted in 1899 and a second group - of which this is one, again of fourteen views - was painted in early 1900. |
