| Description | Attributed to Anthony Van Dyck painting in the manner of Paolo Veronese, this head of a bearded old man is an atmospheric and unidealised portrayal of an unknown sitter. His downcast eyes and the sombre palette add a sense of melancholy to the picture. There are various extant Veronese paintings that include similar old men to the present painting, such as The Martyrdom of Saint Justina (Uffizi). |
