Terms and Conditions

By using the ‘NICE Paintings' website and database you agree to the following Terms and Conditions.

All texts and images on ‘NICE Paintings' are protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. Duplication or sale of all or part of any of the ‘NICE Paintings' website is not permitted, except for your personal research use or educational purposes. You must obtain permission for any other use. Permission to reproduce texts should be made to the National Inventory Research Project (nirp@arthist.arts.gla.ac.uk). Permission to reproduce images should be made to the respective museums. Links to the museums are provided on each record and on the list of Contributing Collections on this website.

In addition, you agree:

1.  To use and to make personal copies of any part of the ‘NICE Paintings' website only for the purposes of non-commercial research or teaching.

2.  To abide by any additional conditions, displayed on screen or otherwise notified to you, that may apply to the access to, or use of, specific data or images within ‘NICE Paintings'.

3.  To preserve at all times the confidentiality of information pertaining to identifiable individuals that is recorded in ‘NICE Paintings'. In addition, where so requested, to preserve the confidentiality of information about, or supplied by, organisations recorded in ‘NICE Paintings'. In particular I undertake not to use or attempt to use ‘NICE Paintings' to deliberately compromise or otherwise infringe the confidentiality of individuals or organisations.

4.  To acknowledge, in any publication, whether printed, electronic or broadcast, using texts or images derived wholly or in part from ‘NICE Paintings': a) the National Inventory Research Project; b) the museum holding the painting concerned, according to any wording the museum may require; and c) the author of the texts as identified on the picture record in ‘NICE Paintings'

5.  To supply the National Inventory Research Project with one copy of any published work based wholly or substantially on the ‘NICE Paintings', or alternatively with references and supporting information if this is requested.

6.  To notify the National Inventory Research Project of any errors discovered in ‘NICE Paintings'.

7.  To accept that the National Inventory Research Project and its agents who carried out the original collection of the data bear no responsibility for any further analysis or interpretation of it.

8.  To accept that the National Inventory Research Project and the contributing museums bear no legal responsibility for the accuracy or comprehensiveness of ‘NICE Paintings', and accepts no liability for indirect, consequential, or incidental, damages or losses arising from use of the ‘NICE Paintings' data or images, or from the unavailability of, or break in access to, the ‘NICE Paintings' website or websites, for whatever reason.
